Device reset: Cleaning dishwasher and washing machine

Everyone knows it: you load the dishwasher and smell a musty saucepan odor, or after washing the dryer still smells like sweat. No worries: with a few smart steps and the right products, you can get rid of those odor spots quickly. We are going to give the dishwasher and the washing machine a thorough reset so they run fresh again.

Your dishwasher in top condition

Start with the basics: the filter. Remove it, rinse it well under warm water, and remove food residues. Also keep an eye on the soap compartment; if a lot of residue remains there, the machine just circulates old soap. Clean these parts with Pink Stuff or a dish brush. Cleaning experts emphasize that you should regularly clean filters, rubbers, and trays and occasionally run a hot cycle with vinegar to prevent odors. This keeps your dishwasher smelling fresh.

  • Rubber edges and seals: Wipe the door seal and other rubbers with a solution of warm water and a little cleaning vinegar (or Pink Stuff). Cleaning enthusiasts recommend doing this monthly with a water-vinegar mixture to prevent mold and unpleasant odors.
  • Free spray arms: If possible, click off the spray arms and check the holes for blockages. Often you can clean them with a toothpick or a sponge. When they are free again, the water can spray optimally.
  • Run a cleaning cycle: Once a month, run an empty machine with a good splash of cleaning vinegar instead of a dishwasher tablet, or use the Pink Stuff Perfect Cleaning Set. This refreshes the dishwasher internally and removes grease and limescale deposits.
  • Extra freshness: After cleaning, you can run a cup of vinegar in the machine to neutralize odors. Or sprinkle some citric acid in the bottom rack for a fresh lemon aroma. Your machine will then smell like new again.

Refreshing your washing machine

The washing machine also deserves maintenance. Dry wipe the rubber door seal and leave it open regularly—a kind of pause after washing. But the best is a periodic refresh: after each wash, clean the rubber edge with a cloth (optionally with vinegar). Old detergents like to stick in the soap drawer, so remove the drawer and rinse it out with Pink Stuff or a dish brush.

  • Watch the soap compartment: remove the drawer and rinse it well. For stubborn soap residues, you can use Pink Stuff paste on it and scrub with an old brush.
  • Regularly run a maintenance cycle: run the washing machine empty at at least 60°C with some extra detergent or a cup of vinegar. This breaks down dirt residues and prevents deposits.

As soon as rubbers and trays shine, you will immediately notice that the musty smell is gone. Want that spa feeling? Put a scoop of finely ground soda crystals in the drum wheel or use a tablet specially for washing machine cleaning. Optionally, you can add a few drops of Fabulosa home perfume in the detergent compartment for a soft, fresh scent when hanging laundry. This way your washing machine and dishwasher feel like new again!

Sustainable cleaning tips for appliances

  • Full machines: Do not run your appliances half empty. A full wash or dishwasher saves energy and water – good for the environment and your wallet.
  • Choose eco-programs: Use economical settings where possible: they consume less energy and save in the long term.
  • Refill packaging: Check if cleaning products are refillable (for example vinegar in liter bottles). Fewer new packages means less waste.
  • Wash your cloths: Use washable instead of disposable cloths to catch loose lint or dirt. Washing one damp microfiber cloth per week is sufficient.
  • Use Bin Brite: Sprinkle a little Bin Brite garbage bin powder (Berry Blast) in your trash can or compost bin. This powder absorbs moisture, neutralizes unpleasant odors, and leaves a fresh berry scent.
  • Open wide after use: After cleaning cycles, leave doors and drawers open so everything can air out well. This way, inner walls dry faster and mold cannot hide.
  • Fill filters smartly: When filling the washing machine, make sure not to exceed the maximum load weight. A little extra space reduces wear and still results in clean laundry.
  • Reuse water: Use rainwater or dishwater (without residues) to water the garden or mop the floor. This way every drop of dirty water is put to good use.
  • Repair immediately: Have a leaking machine checked quickly. Replacement is expensive and polluting. Prevention is better than repair!
  • Eco scent: Keep natural fragrance fresheners within reach: a few drops of Fabulosa home perfume, a bunch of lavender in the closet, or laundry perfume reduce the need for chemical fragrances. Fresh and nice!

With this reset, your appliances not only run better, they are also used more sustainably. And that is truly a clean win for you and the planet!
